Grade Level: 5 – 12

Mystical relics.
Powerful vampires.
Strange allies.

It’s hell being a teenager.

Larna Collins has never understood why her dad skipped out on her and her mother when she was twelve years old. Until then, he was a devoted and loving father.

But six years later, during a renovation of her childhood home, she unearths her father’s journal from under a dusty floorboard. According to his final entry, before he left, he had recently visited a small parish in England.

The entries draw her to this seemingly quaint village, which Larna discovers isn’t as charming as its blood-craving inhabitants want her to believe, and she learns that she isn’t the only one trying to track her father down.

Could this explain her father’s disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad’s master plan all along?

Great Powers Come With Great Responsibility

Recently, I had the pleasure of reading a great teen fantasy, The Outcasts: The Blood Dagger: Volume 1 by Misty Hayes. I was surprised with the talent of this writer and was left with a positive impression. This fun and scary book was engaging with its challenging storyline of vampires and the age-old bullied underdog subject. Both of which are well-worn paths for writers. However, this author managed to create a refreshing new twist which captivated my attention throughout the whole story. I really liked how the author cleverly shifts gears from pulse-pounding drama to hilarious humor. The lead character, Larna, an overweight bullied underdog was a well scripted, believable cast member that I think everyone can understand and relate to. Showing depth and complexity in their individual personalities, I found that all the cast members brought genuine authenticity to the story. I would like to mention the attention to detail in proof and editing of this story is excellent. The excellent cover art created a spooky and somewhat scary attraction for me. In my opinion, you can judge this book by its cover. I am looking forward to the ingredients of Volume number two.

This Little Pig Came Home With Me

If you are considering adding a mini pig to your family, or just plain curious about these adorable little pigs I suggest reading this book, Mini Pigs / Teacup Pigs All You Need To Know: The Essential Guide by Harriet Fields. As well as dispelling many mistruths and false stereotypical myths that our culture has adopted over the years this comprehensive guide answered a lot of questions for me. The most prominent for me is the pigs mislabeling – mini, teacup, micro, miniature, and pocket pigs. They are not specific breeds of pigs that are smaller than the large pigs used in farming. Also, the notion that micro pigs are tiny. Yes, micro pigs are smaller than pigs usually kept on farms but this does not mean that they are TINY. I am glad that I read this informative book.

I have been enlightened in all areas of the little pig world. Once again I recommend this well written and comprehensive guidebook to all those considering adding a cute little addition to their family herd. This book can remove all the uncertainties and surprises that come with this fifteen-year companion. As for the book itself, I really like the cover art illustration and highly informative content. Although, I must mention this book is plagued with typographical errors. Not misspellings but the interjection of wrong words. Therefore, I feel that proofing and editing work are poor. Don’t get me wrong this book is a great wealth of information and is worthy of reading.

Unconventional #1 Inspirational & Christian Fiction Bestseller

#1 Inspirational & Christian Fiction Bestseller!

Over 100,000 units sold worldwide. One of the most popular indie Inspirational/Christian Fiction books on the market!

“Unconventional is a wonderful story full of heart, humor, and what it means to truly be successful. An A+ novel for the keeper shelf.” –Gemma Halliday, NY Times and USA Today bestselling author

“I loved UNCONVENTIONAL, a stirring love story and spiritual journey that will surely touch your heart. You’ll remember James Frost for a long time!” –Cecelia Dowdy, inspirational romance novelist

DESCRIPTION:
YOUNG JAMES FROST just knows, deep in his bones, that he’s a writer. He writes far into early mornings, after his wearying hours of scrubbing toilets and sweeping floors. He loves writing that much.

But it’s not only the joy of words that keeps him grinding; it’s his desire to retire the janitor’s mop. He sees being published as the key to living an improved life. James has another deep-seated conviction: that he’s not good enough. He secretly longs to be accepted. However, the conventional others in his life seem all too willing to remind him that he’s wasting his time.

Then he meets and falls in love with Leigh, the one bright spot in his endless misery of self-doubt. A quiet but resolutely religious girl, she has to fight off disapproval of her own from overly critical parents, whose insults are countered by James’s often-voiced admiration of her. Likewise, Leigh’s faith in his talents begins to build his confidence, eventually allowing her to introduce him to a different way to help himself: relying on God.

Ultimately, James’s newfound faith is sorely tested to the point of doubt when his dream to be published seems to melt into a mirage, smothered by countless rejection slips from agents and publishers. His faith is also battered by having to fight highly emotional battles and suffer fear and loss. Just when James appears hopelessly sapped by devastating events, one last door opens, and he’s rocked by an epiphany.

UNCONVENTIONAL is designed to inspire readers to reach for their dreams. Buy this book. Read it. Share it with everyone you know. You – and they – will be glad you did!

Being Different Is Good

Once in a while, I find a book like Unconventional by J. J. Hebert, a book that I did not want to end. Books like this are hard to find and are so very rewarding when they do come along. This well written and structured book is entertaining as well as educational. The author has constructed a clever cast of characters I could totally relate to. This story is so well rounded I believe most everyone can relate to the main characters, James and Leigh in their complicated yet easy to understand roles in the story.

I really appreciate the authenticity and well-researched story content. A great deal of work went into this book, and it is obvious as it had me turning pages nonstop. This story personally taught me to embrace unconventionality as opposed to societies norm. To be different from peers and cultural stigmas which stifle creativity within us all. Being different is a good thing. All the prolific people in our history had one thing in common, they were all unconventional.

Everyone should spend an afternoon reading this inspiring and heartfelt bestseller. Since this book flowed without interruption, I must mention the proof and editing of this book are outstanding. As far as the cover art, I feel it suffices. Although the great story within supersedes the illustrative art on it. Altogether a fantastic read which deserves a five-star rating.

Parables Book 3 – Top Of The Mountain: a story about real love

Beautiful and Inspirational Love Story

Meet Rachel Green…
Rachel is a beautiful redhead who seemingly had it all—looks, brains, and a strong desire to pursue her greatest dreams. But is that enough to live a fulfilled life? Most of us know what love is. It can be both exhilarating as well as painful. But is there something more to it than what you feel? Why does it have to be so painful at times? Shouldn’t it last forever? Can you find love in this world, or is it somehow elusive? More importantly, what exactly is real love? Does the word mean more than one thing?

From the small community of Cottondale, Texas, to the outskirts of the big city of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachel has pursued an often painful path to following her most passionate dreams of discovering love. Enter, Harvey Gordon. Harvey is Rachel’s lifelong friend. Should their relationship be more than mere friendship? Is real love somehow in the cards for them?

Join author Wade J. Carey as he demonstrates what real love is from a biblical perspective—with all of its attributes and the world’s attempted impediments. In a narrative that touches all sixty-six books of the bible, see what God has to say about it … and what it most definitely is not. Can you find love in this world? Further, can you find real love without God?

Find out Rachel’s story in this third, stand-alone installment in the Parables Series. You don’t want to miss it.

Sacrificial Love

I recently had the great pleasure of reading one of the most inspiring books of the year. Top Of The Mountain: a story about real love by Wade Carey is the third outstanding book I have read by this skilled author. As in his other books, Top Of The Mountain is a heartfelt and honest book with realistic characters and their struggles with life, death, faith, hope, love, and emotional pain. I enjoyed how the characters confront real-life issues with practical and biblical solutions. As the characters face the complicated issues of life, the word of God is expressed and implicated in their testimony.

This writing style awakens and fortifies my own faith in God’s beautiful love. I found myself reading the treasure-laden paragraphs over and over. Sometimes even stopping to write reference scripture. It moved me so thoroughly. This author has helped me understand and internalize age-old scripture. The unforgettable characters became powerful education and entertaining forces that captivated and inspired me page after page. Besides Jesus, of course, my favorite character is Jerry. The humble general store proprietor who possesses insight and wisdom that will blow your mind. Obviously one of God’s mighty figures of truth and guidance.

Just like the other two books by Wade Carey that I’ve read, I found that this story was beautifully structured. Flowing without interruption, you can tell that this book was proofed and edited with great love and care. From the cover art to the last paragraph this book was sweet perfection.

This Intermediate Reader Makes a Great Stocking Stuffer: The Castle by Omid Olfet

Devon was a five-year-old when he learned that those headaches he was having were the result of a cancerous tumor behind his eye. But thanks to his family and good doctors, he survived. Or did he? The Castle is the story of his reminiscences, especially of the crystal chess set he got as a gift after his surgery. But then one of the pieces fell to the floor and shattered. Which piece? The castle, or rook as some call it. Suddenly, Devon awakens in a strange land where he finds a real castle – and some of the same people he knew in his childhood. What is real and what is not? Is he alive or dead? It’s a story that will keep you wondering.

This Intermediate Reader is a Great Book for Teens and Pre-teens about Survival, Love, and Hope

Just finished this short and very entertaining tale from the mind of Omid Olfet, a truly creative writer. I found the subject matter of this story to be very insightful and heartfelt. Touching the real emotion of love and sorrow through the eyes of Devin, a young boy I could really relate to. I have a feeling all men and boys can. I really like how the main character, Devin, shares his scary childhood moments of life and the death of those he dearly loves. A confusing and sometimes uncertain journey most of us experience during our childhood. The emotions that make us who we are as adults.

I felt the incorporation of life after death and its many mysteries created hope and curiosity throughout this great story. The Castle is the second book that I have read by this author. Once again my expectations were pleasantly surpassed as I read a story that I really enjoyed. Thanks for another well written, proofed, and edited story. I did not understand the cover art at first. However, now I appreciate the correlation to the story within. I recommend this book to everyone. Especially young readers and those who are children at heart. I am looking forward to more creative stories from this skilled author.
