Teaching Moral Lessons with Little Ant Books
Little Ant thinks that he is the best insect in the world. When he meets the slow caterpillar he is not impressed, and tells her so. But has Little Ant judged her too soon? This is the first book in the Little Ant Books series.
The Little Ant books are reimaginings of Aesop’s classic fables, teaching timeless lessons like:
- Appearances can be deceiving (Little Ant and the Butterfly);
- Look before you leap (Little Ant Goes to a Picnic);
- You can’t please everyone (Little Ant and the Cricket);
- Even the wildest can be tamed by love (Little Ant’s Valentine);
- One good turn deserves another (Little Ant and the Dove); and
- United we stand, divided we fall (Little Ant and the Peanut, coming July 2017).

These moral stories follow Little Ant as he navigates through the challenges and frustrations of growing up. Each is whimsically illustrated by Tina Perko.
I just finished reading this very entertaining children’s book, Little Ant and the Butterfly by the incredibly talented author S.M.R. Saia. The first in the Little Ant Series, this story about an ant and a caterpillar is written for ages two to eight. It not only shows that being different is okay but that it can be a positive thing. The illustrations in this book are vibrant and fun. They do a fantastic job of bringing the story to life for the reader and the little ones being read to. Thanks to perfect editing and proofreading this story flowed smoothly without interruption.
I can not praise this author enough it not very often that I read a children’s book and say WOW! This is one that I can’t wait to share with my grandchildren. After reading Little Ant and the Butterfly, I was so impressed with how well written and illustrated it was that I went to their site to see what other books were available. There I discovered that they had FREE Little Ant coloring and activity pages, worksheets, and lesson plans to reinforce and build upon what was being taught in the book. I will be getting the rest of this series and can’t wait to read them to my grandchildren.
