Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s DoodleArt is very familiar to me. It was in 1972 that Glenn Anderson hit on the idea of coloring a black and white line drawing called “Ecology.” He quickly recognized that the poster, partnered with the vibrant colors of felt pens provided immediate creative satisfaction. He packaged the print and markers together in the now familiar clear tube. This print alone has sold 1 million copies around the world! Soon the do your own thing in color craze became a fad for everyone from young teenagers to seniors. I was no exception and spent hours of my free time from junior high to high school coloring the DoodleArt sheets.
There have been many that have come and gone since, but none matched the quality and design of the originals that I remembered. In 2011, the rights and ownership of the Original DoodleArt were transferred to new owners. Thanks to PlaSmart’s commitment to the original DoodleArt vision the tradition of high-quality DoodleArt poster kits that many of us grew up with is still available today for our children and grandchildren. I am so pleased that The Original Doodle Art is coloring the world again!
Being a huge fan of DoodleArt I was thrilled when we recently received “The Sea” which is Illustrated by Jerrard Smith and Moira Carlson (formerly known as Moira Weinreich). The paper that the poster is made from is archival quality. We found it to be thick and durable. The markers that came with the set are deep and vibrant so the colors are sure to pop-off the page.
If you are looking for a fun and creative gift idea for a birthday, holiday, or any other special occasion I would highly recommend this blast from the past! I find that coloring these black and white images therapeutic and a great destresser from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This large poster is sure to please and relax the artist inside anyone young or old.
