Count Your Blessings: Little Ant and the Mantis Is HERE!

Little Ant and the Mantis

MORAL: Count Your Blessings

Book 9 of the Little Ant series, Little Ant and the Mantis, will be available on June 1st and is available for preorder now! I’ve been reading this series to my grandchildren since discovering them about a year ago and we are always excited when a new one is released. Each of the moral stories in the Little Ant Series follows Little Ant as he navigates through the challenges and frustrations of growing up. They are whimsically illustrated by Tina Perko. The beautiful illustrations that we find each book add understanding and interest to the lesson being taught.

I cannot praise this author enough as it is not very often that you read a children’s book and say WOW! After reading the first book in the series, Little Ant and the Butterfly, I was so impressed with how well written and illustrated it was that when we went to their site to see what other books were available I also reached out to her. I had to let her know how impressed we were with her work.

ABOUT THE Little Ant and the Mantis BOOK

This story starts out as Little Ant is being impatient with having to wait in line. He has to share everything, doesn’t get credit for what he does, and his friends often to busy to play with him so he is not feeling very appreciated. Not happy with anything and now the invisible wall, Little Ant is having the worst day ever.

Then he meets a praying mantis who is able to remain happy, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Will Little Ant learn his secret? What do you think Little Ant would be happy about?

Written for children from kindergarten through second grade, Little Ant and the Mantis is an original story inspired by Aesop’s “The Hares and the Frogs,” which teaches that there is always someone worse off than yourself. However, this Little Ant story avoids comparing oneself to others but instead focuses on recognizing and appreciating the good things in one’s life. The moral of this fable is count your blessings.

5 STAR Vietnam War Mystery Thriller Facing the Dragon

5 STAR Vietnam War Mystery Thriller
Facing the Dragon by Philip Derrick

January 1970 – Just over a week ago James Peterson was a high school freshman whose biggest worry was passing his Geometry class. Now he’s in South Vietnam impersonating an army paratrooper. He’s not there for glory but to make up for his cowardice and solve a mystery.

But can a fifteen-year-old boy survive without any military training?
Can he find the answers he seeks?
Or will someone see that he’s shut down permanently?

2.4 million men served in South Vietnam. Join the adventure and meet the most unusual one of all.

That Ain’t No Unicorn In This Vietnam War Mystery

Not long ago I had the opportunity to read Facing the Dragon: A Vietnam War Mystery Thriller by Philip Derrick and I must say WOW! What a cool and ingenious story. I thought I had read pretty much every wartime scenario possible, but this one caught me by surprise. This inventive author entertained and captivated me page after page with a great storyline and well-developed characters.

As a former military guy, I was quite impressed with the accurate descriptions of equipment, weapons, and overall military terminology and structure. It is evident that somebody has been a direct observer of F.U.B.A.R. and other esoteric acronyms. The precise proof and editing work made this story pleasurable and easy to read. Overall, this book contained everything that I enjoy in a wartime read. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the cover art containing the historical Huey Helicopter. What an attention grabber and fitting to the story within! Great work Philip Derrick, looking forward to more from you, carry on.

Psychological Thriller – A Mentor and Her Muse by Susan Sage

Psychological Thriller
A Mentor and Her Muse by Susan Sage

Under the guise of mentor and muse, a frustrated writer and her ambitious teenage protégé take an illicit summer road trip fraught with racial and sexual tension. This is a compelling psychological novel about social norms, artistic ambition, and obsession.Maggie Barnett works in the media center of a school in Flint, Michigan where she meets Taezha Riverton, an aspiring teenage writer. After discovering that Maggie is also a writer, Taezha turns to her as both mentor and friend. Although Tae’s mother has nothing against Maggie, she is less than thrilled when Maggie proposes to take her daughter on a summer road trip. Permission is never explicitly granted, but shortly after school is out for the summer, Maggie and Tae head for the Southeast.

Psychological Thriller Is
A Confusing Trip of Discovery and Hope

I just finished reading this compelling psychological novel, A Mentor and Her Muse by Susan Sage. I found the cover of this book to be as thoughtful and provoking as the contents were creative and artistically written. The main character, Maggie a fifty-something frustrated writer works in the media center of a school in Michigan. At work is where she meets Tae, an ambitious teenager with a difficult home life. Tae is an inspiring writer and when she discovers that Maggie is also a writer she looks to her for guidance. Maggie becomes both mentor and friend.

Although warned by coworkers against it, she spends time with her after school and on weekends. It’s not enough for Maggie to take her muse to restaurants, bookstore cafes, and poetry readings so she proposes to take her on a summer road trip. Quintana, Tae’s Mother, isn’t happy about it but also doesn’t say no, so shortly after school is out for the summer, Maggie and the fifteen-year-old head for the Southeast. Will the illicit summer road trip, tinged with racial and sexual tension, land Maggie in legal trouble? Will Maggie come through for Tae and save her from her misery while helping her develop as a writer? I enjoyed the vivid descriptions and emotional detail of the author’s writing as she answered these questions and took me on the road trip along with Maggie and Tae. I would recommend this book to my friends and family as well as all others wanting to escape for a while with a well-rounded read.  More Book Reviews.

Don’t Shine: Why Doing Your Best Work May Be Hazardous to Your Career

Don’t Shine
The Surprising Science of Workplace Performance and Why Doing Your Best Work May Be Hazardous to Your Career

Your Career May Be in Jeopardy

Aggression. Hostility. Intimidation. You’ve seen these behaviors at work, but you may not know there are a group of employees who are routine bullying targets: great employees. Great employees are good at what they do, friendly, and hard working. Unfortunately, these same traits make them ideal targets for bullies.

High performance is often correlated with workplace abuse. And the result isn’t just a bad day for these bullied employees. They may experience chronic stress, job loss, and even hospitalization.

Should You Do Less Work at the Office?

“Work hard.” “Do your best.” These sayings have shaped the lives of millions of workers. But there may be a downside to doing your best. Science reveals the very act of doing great work may not bring success, but the opposite. Your boss and coworkers may target you with vindictive performance reviews, gossip, and even work sabotage.

Don’t Shine is a short book with strategies for doing great work so you can thrive. It reveals the science behind workplace performance so you don’t get bullied out of your job or career. Because everyone deserves the right to shine.

About the Author

Christophe P. Yerling, Ph.D. is a researcher and award-winning journalist whose career has spanned nearly three decades. He’s a graduate of Miami University and Columbia University and lives in Woodstock, New York with his wife and college sweetheart, Diane, and two teenage sons. The Yerling clan includes a moody cat named Otis and a sheep dog named Marble.

Your Career May Be On The Line

Tall Poppy Beware!

I recently finished this very interesting and informative book. Don’t Shine: The Surprising Science of Workplace Performance and Why Doing Your Best Work May Be Hazardous to Your Career written by the very talented author, Christophe P. Yerling Ph.D. As a former new car sales manager, I have personally experienced most of the negative scenarios outlined in this book. Ironically, I knew these adverse social interactions were occurring although I felt this symptom to be isolated to my work environment. I now stand corrected and enlightened after reading this book.

I appreciate how the author has identified these workplace maladies and offers simple constructive solutions. I only wish this book was available early in my sales career. However, I found this read quite relevant and applicable to most work environments involving human beings. I only discovered three typos, the first being at the beginning of the book. Other than the few minute errors, this book is well edited and proofed. I would strongly recommend this book to my friends and family as well as all others wanting to avoid and diffuse stressful workplace emotions. More Book Reviews.
