The Brimstone Chronicles is a dark fantasy series following the life of the Mage Brimstone. The story is fast paced and filled with unique characters and captivating creatures. Be warned this series is not for the faint of heart. Death and suffering lie around every corner, and not even the innocent are safe.
End of the Last Great Kingdom is the first book in Victor Rose’s dark fantasy series, The Brimstone Chronicles, which follows the life of the Mage Brimstone. It takes place at the beginning of Brimstone’s torment and when his world is being racked with violence and politic change. I found this book very entertaining and really enjoyed the well-structured and imaginative story. Obviously, the author spent a great deal of time and energy planning this complicated storyline. My favorite characters are Brimstone and Heat, two mages, students of magic and special powers. This story also contained the familiar trolls and goblin characters that we find in other great stories. The Enlightens and other colorful characters were also enjoyable. This tale is loaded with complex well-developed characters that transform this into an almost believable environment. As I read, I kept thinking of the Harry Potter series, especially following the students Brimstone and Heat in their journey of mastering the skills of magic and super power at Mage School. Overall, this book was well proofed and edited. However, a few typos slipped through once in a while. The most notable was “The squid stretched out its testicles as Brimstone was lifting Neutron from the water and handing him over to Brick.” The cover is decent but seems a bit light considering the powerful characters and their dramatic super powers. I really did like the author’s great imagination and storytelling skills. I do look forward to reading other fun stories from this talented writer.

Author’s Biography Victor Rose is the creator and publisher of the book series The Brimstone Chronicles. The “End of the Last Great Kingdom” is Victor Rose’s first published book. He began planning the story four years prior while working on his graduate degree. There were several rough attempts to work out writing style and tone of the book. In late 2015 Victor began to write the current version of the book End of the Last Great Kingdom. Currently, he working on the sequel Extinction of the Enlighten, which he plans to complete this year and publish in 2018. |
