Count Your Blessings: Little Ant and the Mantis Is HERE!

Count Your Blessings: Little Ant and the Mantis Is HERE!

Little Ant and the Mantis

MORAL: Count Your Blessings

Book 9 of the Little Ant series, Little Ant and the Mantis, will be available on June 1st and is available for preorder now! I’ve been reading this series to my grandchildren since discovering them about a year ago and we are always excited when a new one is released. Each of the moral stories in the Little Ant Series follows Little Ant as he navigates through the challenges and frustrations of growing up. They are whimsically illustrated by Tina Perko. The beautiful illustrations that we find each book add understanding and interest to the lesson being taught.

I cannot praise this author enough as it is not very often that you read a children’s book and say WOW! After reading the first book in the series, Little Ant and the Butterfly, I was so impressed with how well written and illustrated it was that when we went to their site to see what other books were available I also reached out to her. I had to let her know how impressed we were with her work.

Count Your Blessings: Little Ant and the Mantis Is HERE!

ABOUT THE Little Ant and the Mantis BOOK

This story starts out as Little Ant is being impatient with having to wait in line. He has to share everything, doesn’t get credit for what he does, and his friends often to busy to play with him so he is not feeling very appreciated. Not happy with anything and now the invisible wall, Little Ant is having the worst day ever.

Then he meets a praying mantis who is able to remain happy, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Will Little Ant learn his secret? What do you think Little Ant would be happy about?

Written for children from kindergarten through second grade, Little Ant and the Mantis is an original story inspired by Aesop’s “The Hares and the Frogs,” which teaches that there is always someone worse off than yourself. However, this Little Ant story avoids comparing oneself to others but instead focuses on recognizing and appreciating the good things in one’s life. The moral of this fable is count your blessings.

It’s never too early to start reading to a child so this series would make a wonderful baby shower gift for a Mom-To-Be. After reading the entire series I would recommend it with confidence for children as old as the second or third grade.

Native American Thriller – SHADOW DANCER A John Treehorn Mystery

March 12, 2018 By Paula 2 Comments

Shadow Dancer - A John Treehorn Mystery (Book 1) by Dinah Miller

Native American Thriller
SHADOW DANCER

The first installment in the John Treehorn Mystery Series.

A dead man’s clue sends FBI Special Agent John Treehorn, to the Land of his People, the Navajo Indian Reservation, to hunt an elusive murderer named ‘Shadow Dancer’ the same Indian myth who brought this decorated law enforcement officer to his knees years earlier. John Treehorn returns to the Navajo Reservation to hunt a cold case killer whose mysterious ties are connected and cloaked in confidentiality to a prestigious Washington DC law firm. Treehorn’s haunted past is resurrected as the clues are revealed in a fifteen-year-old case identifies the killer has a connection to Treehorn’s murdered wife. “My husband kept a secret Agent Treehorn that he took to his grave. Our son was assaulted and because of the shame he has resided most of the last fifteen years of his life in a psychiatric hospital.” The FBI reopened the case as Treehorn, Special Agent Raven Shelley, and Navajo Nation Police Chief Samuel Bear hunt for clues that would help solve the case that neither the FBI nor NNP could solve years ago.

One of the victims, in the original crime, provides a vital clue that he was assaulted by “Shadow Dancer” a mythical Navajo creature that takes your soul. Treehorn knew this creature wasn’t a myth because fifteen years prior, a Shadow Dancer killed Treehorn’s wife in a murderous rage. Treehorn locates the missing body of the cold case and clues lead to two suspects, a Navajo cop who may have covered up a murder, and a Washington law firm whose clients were involved in the crime. The victim and clues lead Treehorn across the reservation in search of the killer. When another murder is discovered that ties the two murders together, Treehorn, Raven, and Samuel hunt the killer, who hides on the reservation.

As the motive for the murders emerges, the Washington law firm can’t hide their own from Treehorn’s subpoena and exposure. Information that is obtained lead Treehorn to a Baltimore homicide detectives cold case murder that links Treehorn’s case with a horrendous crime that occurred on the reservation, which identifies the killer of the two cold cases. Treehorn, Raven, and Samuel close in on the killer as secrets to Treehorn’s wife’s murder, long buried, are exposed; and the true killer’s identity is revealed as not only as a multiple killer, but, a brutalized victim. Not all killers are born to kill, some are justified to kill.

Shadow Dancer - A John Treehorn Mystery (Book 1) by Dinah Miller

Native American & G-Man
trying hard to keep the balance between the two worlds

If like myself you enjoy crime mysteries with a great leading character, I have a really great one for you that I recently finished reading. I must tell you that prior to beginning SHADOW DANCER, I felt a bit skeptical when Paula handed me another murder mystery to read. I thought yeah, another writer in this very crowded genre. Seems, I am once again wrong, this gifted author brought a breath of fresh air to this extremely popular subject matter. The writing style of this talented writer had my mind captivated before I even noticed.

The vibrant characters and their environment that Dinah Miller created had me totally immersed in the story. It took me a little time to figure out why. It seems the author has mastered the “less is more” style, creating only pertinent dialogue and eloquent timing. The fast-paced to the point writing style demanded my attention and kept me entertained from beginning to end. This is where I must compliment the proof and editing process of this book. It helped enhance the author’s skills and improved overall readability of this book. At the risk of being picky, and opinionated, the cover should match and/or surpass the subject contained within. In my opinion, this art fell a little bit short. But, that is just my opinion. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more adventures of John Treehorn, F.B.I. Special Agent. The Paloma Crossing: Must Read Crime Thriller & Award Winner

October 28, 2017 By Paula Leave a Comment

Must Read Crime Thriller The Paloma Crossing

Hardin Steel is back in “The Paloma Crossing!”

Hardin Steel worked twenty years as a DEA agent: drank too much, divorced twice, made a number of serious enemies, and retired at the behest of the agency. He’s now the sheriff of Cameron County, the southernmost county in Texas, where cocaine and corruption are king.
Across the river, Frederick Ochoa has a new weapon in his arsenal: Stinger missiles. Originally supplied to the mujahideen by the CIA, twenty of the surface-to-air missiles are now in the hands of the deadliest drug lord in Mexico. And he wastes no time in putting them to good use.
Steel fights the cartel, local corruption, and his own demons, the only way he knows how—down and dirty—winner take all.

About the Author

Randall Reneau is the author of seven novels, including Diamond Fields, a Royal Dragonfly Book Awards grand prize winner, and The Medinandi License, a Reader Views Literary Award winner. He is also a two-time winner of the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award. A former international geologist and Vietnam veteran, he lives with his wife, Lynne, in Austin, Texas.

Must Read Crime Thriller The Paloma Crossing (Hardin Steel Book 2)

You Better Read The Paloma Crossing Pilgram!

Marcus just finished this very exciting action packed book. The second book in the Hardin Steel series, The Paloma Crossing is written by the creative author, Randall Reneau. This author is new to us and shall not be soon forgotten. This fun read includes what most novels in the Mystery, Thriller & Suspense genre do murder and of course money. Marcus found that this book had an excellent cast of characters from drug lords and traffickers to DEA agents and other law enforcement officials. His favorite bad guys, highly trained and experienced mercenaries with polished lethal skills, were also found amongst the well-developed cast of characters in this book.

I must mention the lead character in which he immediately became a fan of, Sheriff Hardin Steel, AKA Stainless Steel among friends. This guy makes the story remarkable. You see, Steel is a man’s man, the proverbial “John Wayne” kinda guy. Rough, tough, and take no B.S. from anyone kind of guy. OOORAH! With Steel as the main character in other excellent stories by this skilled writer, we are looking forward to more epic adventures in the future.

I also wanted to take a moment to comment on the impeccable job that was done with proofing and editing this novel. I don’t want to be the bad guy, but we did not like the cover art. Marcus found it to be confusing and one dimensional. If we had judged this book by its cover, he probably would not have read it and would have missed the great story within.

A Book For Teens: Jake & the Dragons of Asheville by Brian Kacica

July 22, 2017 By Paula 2 Comments

Jake & the Dragons of Asheville by Brian Kacica Signed Cover

In a small, sleepy town in North Carolina, thirteen-year-old Jake Winston has discovered he carries a unique genetic trait; one that a covert government agency will stop at nothing to obtain. After the tragic death of his father, a local firefighting hero, Jake’s absent grandfather returns and sends him on a journey into the gated forest at the edge of town, bringing Jake face-to-face with a family of ancient dragons thought long extinct.

Determined to grasp the power of the blood flowing through Jake’s veins, the agent from the secret ONX facility begins killing every dragon in his path. This forces Jake in the middle of a battle between the government and the dragons of Asheville, where the true potential of his power is revealed.

About the Author
Brian Kacica lives in the perilous hills of San Diego, fending off coyotes, tarantulas, bobcats, and rattle snakes with his beautiful, valiant wife, three courageous children, and chubby chocolate Lab, whose plump legs are routinely a chew toy for her spunky Boxer sidekick. JDA is his debut novel.

Jake & the Dragons of Asheville by Brian Kacica Back Cover

Marc just recently finished a great summertime book titled Jake & the Dragons of Asheville. I must admit that he started off a bit skeptical considering he thought it was going to be just another children’s story about dragons. A genre which has been well worn in literature and movies over the past few years. However, he was pleasantly surprised by this author, Brian Kacica, and that his stereo type and premature skepticism were unfounded. We both like being wrong about books and enjoy finding a story that has a refreshing and completely different story line than expected. Jake & the Dragons of Asheville is not your stereotypical all flash and no substance Hollywood dragon tale. This book, which I would recommend for children thirteen and up, is very inventive and never predictable.

Jake & the Dragons of Asheville Unleash The Hero

Thanks to this talented writer Marc was immersed in this entirely different, environmentally complex, yet easy to follow imaginative story. The believability of the characters and environment is in part thanks to the overall structure and work that into creating a flawless read. Proofing and editing of this story are immaculate throughout. The cover art was found to be a bit predictable until he read the pages within. Where I found my favorite character, Bussy, who kept me laughing. A chubby unappreciated kid with extreme computer skill in programming, hacking, and electronic mods of all types. The kid who is never afraid of failing and eventually succeeds. He also enjoyed the men in black and their conspiratory way. And of course, he liked the drones and the clandestine facility in the woods. Just out of sight from curious locals view. Thank you for appealing to the young adventurous boy within him.

Sound like an exciting read that you or Read Jake & the Dragons of Asheville by Brian Kacica for FREE with Kindle Unlimited. You can also order this Children’s Fantasy title in eBook or Paperback format.
