The use of flexible LED strip lights is rapidly rising around the world. Thanks to an increase in efficiency, color options, brightness, and ease of installation architects and lighting designers are implementing LED strips lights into residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Now a home owner can now install and design like a lighting professional in just a few hours using the complete lighting kits that are available. These kits come in both indoor only and waterproof strips for outdoor use.
We recently received the Homaz 300 Unit LED Flexible Strip Lights for indoor use to try out. This kit arrived with all 16.4ft of the RGB LED strip wrapped neatly on a convenient reel. The LED strip contains red, green, and blue lights on one side and 3M tape on the back for easy mounting. I like that the working voltage of these lights is 12V. Meaning that they put out extremely low heat, making them touchable and safe to children. The flexible light strip can be cut every 3 LEDs along the cutting marks, without damaging the rest strips. Connectors are included so you can mount strips end-to-end, create visual effect you want with angles, and also get the perfect fit for your lighting design. There is a control box that plugs into both the AC adapter and the light strip. The control box responds to the included remote control for a variety of settings including flash, strobe, fade, and smooth for your visual presentation.
As a huge fan of anything LED, I couldn’t wait to install these lights. After unboxing, using the adhesive backing I mounted them under our glass table. Cutting the excess off was as easy as stated in the description. Just cut on the cut to length as per manufacturer’s markings on the strip. After install, I powered up the lights via the not so impressive remote control. Overall, this package seems sloppily constructed. The first thing you notice when picking up the remote is adhesive cover is not secure and was installed crooked. Next, the four prong connections fit loosely giving me a less than confident feeling about them staying connected. Don’t get me wrong these lights are cool and our coffee table looks like a Las Vegas casino table. I just wish the overall product had a bit more attention to detail and quality. On a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest and ten the best, I would give these lights a score of six with room for improvement.
