Thanksgiving Poems and Blessings

November 22, 2018 By Paula 9 Comments

A Thanksgiving Poem I WANT TO WISH ALL MY READERS HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING! #SCRF
I WANT TO WISH ALL MY READERS HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

There is much to be thankful for. However, when you gather around the table at Thanksgiving and offer your thoughts as to what you are thankful for, try not to take so long that you’re opening Christmas presents when you conclude.

A Thanksgiving Poem

May your stuffing be tasty,
and your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes and gravy,
have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious
and your pies take the prize.
And may your
Thanksgiving dinner
stay off your thighs!

Thanksgiving Poem: Perhaps the World Ends Here Joy Harjo, 1951

Perhaps the World Ends Here

Joy Harjo, 1951

The world begins at a kitchen table. No matter what, we must eat to live.

The gifts of earth are brought and prepared, set on the table. So it has been since creation, and it will go on.

We chase chickens or dogs away from it. Babies teethe at the corners. They scrape their knees under it.

It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human. We make men at it, we make women.

At this table we gossip, recall enemies and the ghosts of lovers.

Our dreams drink coffee with us as they put their arms around our children. They laugh with us at our poor falling-down selves and as we put ourselves back together once again at the table.

This table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in the sun.

Wars have begun and ended at this table. It is a place to hide in the shadow of terror. A place to celebrate the terrible victory.

We have given birth on this table, and have prepared our parents for burial here.

At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow. We pray of suffering and remorse. We give thanks.

Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite.

Thanksgiving Turkey

Five Turkeys

Five big turkeys sitting on the gate.
The first one said, “It’s getting late.”
The second one said, “Who goes there”?
The third one said, “There are farmers everywhere.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run, run, run.”
The fifth one said, “It’s just Thanksgiving fun.”
Then Gobble Gobble went the wind.
And out went the lights.
And the five fat turkeys were out of sight.

Pies and Pie Crust Recipes

Thanksgiving Time

When all the leaves are off the boughs,
And nuts and apples gathered in,
And cornstalks waiting for the cows,
And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,
Then Mother says, “My children dear,
The fields are brown, and autumn flies;
Thanksgiving Day is very near,
And we must make Thanksgiving pies!”

Thanksgving Turkey On Top Of Car - Thanksgiving Poem Blessing

Giving Thanks

For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home –
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman’s hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought –
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the “Land of the Free” –
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Cornucopia

A Thanksgiving Poem for 2019.

The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest is all gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain.
So open wide the doorway-
Thanksgiving comes again!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving Poem Blessing

Even though Thanksgiving isn’t the only time we should give thanks, it does serve as a great reminder to do so. This Thanksgiving sit back, enjoy the food, talk to family, and think about everything we should be thankful for.

Love’s Proclamation – An Inquiry into Morality and Love

August 25, 2017 By Paula Leave a Comment

Love's Proclamation - A Contemporary Poetic Novelette

Love’s Proclamation is a fictional love story written in poetry forming a novelette, consisting of 61 poems. Love’s Proclamation is about a young adult named Rureese who is a minor of morality. While excavating, he meets a beautiful woman named Noella. Rureese challenges the existence of man, and he feels the chains of morality. He loves her, but he feels he must follow his purpose.

Excerpt:

Be not discouraged; fatalism is: impotence.
O how greatly we humans can pretend!
I was caught in the strings of barbarianism.
As I flew I saw heights and new thanksgivings.

How to unpack? How to digest? How not to forget?
The curation was exponentially growing!
And as the master of the plan, I felt it was necessary
To dig deeper, to inquire, to question, and then some.

My walls were covered in notes only I understood–
Everything was a trap and wonderful bliss.
Distortion was just an illusion, or so I believed.
Returning to earth, lacked my decision. Rureese!

Talk with me. Come back; I need you.
I felt her pain but pursued life’s praise.
I assumed she’d be happy if what I brought back
Were reasons to live more wholly.

Love's Proclamation - A Contemporary Poetic Novelette

Love’s Proclamation: A Contemporary Poetic Novelette by Michael A Paladino is a spirit lifting compilation of short poems that will warm your heart and enlighten your life. With language that is raw, beautiful and modern, the poems are rich, emotive, and touching. I found this short but powerful book very moving and beautifully written. Containing vivid poetry on the topic of love, with great insight that is profound, true, and so beautiful, Love’s Proclamation: A Contemporary Poetic Novelette offers readers a deep intuitive understanding of morality and love. I found myself also trying to differentiate between right and wrong as I traveled with Rureese and Noella as they navigated the emotions of love’s journey. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves poems, knows someone who loves poems, is in love, or has someone who loves them. It is one that I am so glad to have in my collection and will be read many times in the years to come. Each time I reread one of the poems I discover a new depth to it that I missed the time before.

What is a limerick? How do I write one?

February 16, 2017 By Paula 7 Comments

What is a limerick? How do I write one?

A limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm. The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm.

  1. Choose a Brooklyn Bean Roast or Hot Cocoa flavor and write the first line.
  2. Look in a rhyming dictionary for words that rhyme with your choice.
  3. Write line 2 and 5 to rhyme with the first line.
  4. Now write lines 3 and 4 with a different rhyme.

Some Limerick Tricks:
The first line usually ends with a person’s first name or the name of a place.
The last line is usually funny.

Some Limerick Examples:

There was a Young Lady whose chin
Resembled the point of a pin:
So she had it made sharp,
And purchased a harp,
And played several tunes with her chin.
– Edward Lear
There was an Old Man of Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
His daughter, called Nan,
Ran away with a man,
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
