Is the croissant cookie worth making?
A croissant cookie, or “crookie,” is a pastry that combines a flaky, buttery croissant with warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie dough.
The standard crookie features:
- A croissant that is sliced open, like a sandwich.
- Then, a layer of cookie dough spread inside and on top.
- Next, you bake the entire confection until the croissant is crispy and the cookie dough is warm and melty.
Origins of the crookie:
The first crookie was created at Maison Louvard, a bakery in Paris, in 2022. It gained widespread fame in early 2024, thanks to social media platforms like TikTok, which showcased the simple two-ingredient hack.
How to make a crookie at home:
Making a crookie is easy and requires only two ingredients: a pre-made croissant and your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough. You can use homemade or store-bought dough. Here’s a link to some of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes.

- Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Stuff and top the croissant: Slice croissants in half. Place about 2 to 3 pieces of cookie dough inside each croissant, then close and top with additional cookie dough. The larger the pieces of cookie dough that you add to the center, the more doughy the inside will be after baking.
- Bake: Place the crookie on the baking sheet and bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the cookie dough is golden brown and the croissant is slightly toasted.
- Garnish and serve: Let the crookies cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes. Then, finish with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
I used premade all-butter croissants that I found on clearance at Aldi’s and Pillsbury Ready To Bake Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough from Walmart to make my Le Crookies. I wasn’t sure if all the hype was just that, hype, or if these would be as amazing as everyone said. One of the first things I noticed as I took my first bite was how flaky and light the butter croissant became after baking. And, the combination of the flaky croissant and warm, gooey cookie was divine. So, is this croissant cookie worth making? Yes, it’s as delicious as everyone says it is!
Note: These are best eaten fresh, as I had saved one to have with my morning coffee the next day, and the croissant was tough — and no longer light and flaky.
